The last lesson of your course or education module is the test lesson. You will do a few exercises that require the knowledge and new skills you acquired during this training. These tests take 1:45 hours to complete.
Since this test is quite extensive it takes more time to complete: 1 month. You send in your work on the agreed date and will receive tips and input to adjust things to make your design more professional.
After your test
Your test will be evaluated after you send in your work.
You may receive tips and may be asked a few more questions to make sure the result is all right.
If you sent in all required homework and the final test results are good you you can come over to pick up your certificate, or you can receive a digital certificate you can easily share and send to prospective employers.
With individual courses
The test should be scheduled within a month after the last lesson.
You can schedule the tests during the education but you can also do all the courses at the end of the education, allowing you to have lots of time to practise. This way you use the entire runtime of the education to let things sink in. Schedule your tests within two months after your last lesson.
Yes, this is absolutely possible. Now that all courses and educations are available via video training, you can book English spoken course from wherever you live.
All books are available in English.
During your courses and education, all the training can be done in English. This means you will receive books in English, and your homework assignments and other assignments, as well as your homework corrections, will be communicated in English.

You decide how much homework time you need.
You can decide on your own pace, this also allows you to combine more lessons, or to split lessons, have class on special days and times.
Single lessons: ± 1.5 hour
Combined lessons: 3 hours
You can decide on this yourself, you can also decide how much time you need for the homework.
You can book single lessons or can combine more lessons to get to where you want to be faster, this is great if you need the course to fit your schedule.
Single lessons 1.5 hours
Combined lessons 3 hours
Regular video training allows students to train together via video. This is similar to training in a classroom, but it's online.
This type of training is perfect if you want to attend a course from a different country, too.
This is usually the preferable way to train since you learn from other students' questions, but it is possible that you end up in class alone: we don't cancel classes since we don't like minimum attendance requirements. Every student is welcome if they want to train.
We set up a schedule which depends on availability and always combine two lessons. If your course contains an uneven number of lessons, one of them will be a single lesson. Simple.
With a personal video course or education you can set up a special pace. You can for instance combine or split lessons and have class on days and times that work with your personal schedule. This will depend on availability: if you would like to book a day that is not available, we will find another day that will be good for you too.
If you prefer, you can do the courses and educations from home at a special pace. This means you receive the lesson books and required material when you are ready to receive them.
You decide how much time you need to read the lesson material and how much time you want to spend on doing the homework. In short: it's all up to you. We can help set you up a schedule though, if you like.
Homework after each lesson
You will receive homework each week. Making this homework takes about 12 hours per week in total. If you only do the required assignments you will need about 5 hours per week to do your homework during this course.
When do I send in homework?
You have a week to make your homework: you send it in in the week following your lesson so your teacher can evaluate your work.
Your teacher reserves time each week to correct and evaluate your work. You will receive corrections and tips, if necessary. There are guide lines to send in your work: you will receive them during your first lesson.
About 12/15 minutes are reserved for questions at the start of each lesson. This allows your fellow students to learn from your questions and the answers.
Please note the software for your course should be installed before class, there is no time to install it during class and this would mean you wouldn't be able to do the exercises.
Most courses you an attend at learningTrain will need you to use Adobe software. This can be a single application such as Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign or Dreamweaver. But if you attend an education you may need more applications. In such a case it's best to purchase the Creative Cloud software and use this to install the software you need.
It really is advised to only use legal software. Illegal software often does not allow you to install legal software. But evevn worse is that some functionality in illegal software may render Wacom tablets useless, or certain tools, such as a brush in Photoshop, difficult or impossible to use.
Find discounts, if available, via the following links, you can sometimes get discounts of 40%.
You take care of the software yourself, as Adobe Preferred Partner we can only sell multi licenses and seats to companies.
You either buy the software or install a trial.
If you already own Adobe software there is no need to purchase the subscription based Cloud applications. The following suites are still perfectly usable:
Creative Suite CS4 through CS6
You do need prior knowledge to attend this course. Have a look at the content of the Photoshop course to find out if you know all that is addressed. If you need advice, call 020 6820080 so someone can help you.
It is a good idea to be handy when you use your computer.
This means you can install programs (you will have to install software most times) and you can organise, monitor and manage your folders and files.

Photoshop is an Adobe Systems application that is primarily used to create images for print and multimedia. It is the application of choice of most professional image editors.
Photoshop allows you to edit photographic images such as images from a digital camera or internet. Use Photoshop to adjust colours, isolate elements, remove backgrounds and much more until your images and photo collages are perfect for print and digital media.
No, Photoshop is not difficult although this is different for each student. If you don't have any experience with any of the Adobe applications you may need a bit more time getting the hang of it.
You will see during the first class that everything is well explained. With our more targeted and personal approach (even though you're in a group) there is no doubt you will learn it all!
Many LearningTrain students are photographers, yes. But you don't have to be a photographer to attend Photoshop or to use Photoshop. Not at all!
During the courses you can use your own photographs but you can use images from stock sites just as well. Your courses include images to work with to do the exercises and to create free artwork.
You edit photos with Photoshop. And this is a very short description: there is so much you can do with it that it's difficult to catch this into a few words. Find a few core functions below.
With 'isolation' one usually means an element is going to be cut out. This can be an animal, a person or something else. Its background is removed so it can be used in an other photo to create a photo collage.
Photo corrections are incredibly useful. With good corrections you can tweak the colours, adjust the tone and even tint of elements. You can remove colour casts and adjust the tonal values.
You can restore images in Photoshop and do this perfectly. Old, damaged photos can be scanned and restored, even photos that were taken under poor conditions or that contain unwanted elements can be fully restored so they can be well used in all your designs.
You may come home finding some or your precious photos are not as good as you thought they would look. Lighting can be off, colours can be wrong. You can edit all images taken with your digital camera in Photoshop. But you can even scan your classic photos, or their negatives, and edit them in Photoshop.
if an image is going to be used in InDesign it is best to prepare it for this yourself: this way you have everything under control and don't depend on third parties to do this. You need Photoshop for this.
Photoshop is a real star in creating images for websites, news letters and multimedia. You can for instance create banners for websites, buttons and everything you need for the total design.
An image is usually not in the correct size for the job. They need to be cropped or resized to get the most out of them and to use them the right way. This is all something you do in Photoshop.
Images are not always in the correct resolution. This means an image may not have to right resolution for the job, it may for instance not be correct for print with different printing techniques. Use Photoshop to adjust resolution and make them perfect for your design goal.
You can design websites in Photoshop. To be honest: Illustrator is much handier for this. But the photos, the images you will use on the websites will really have to be edited in Photoshop. Saving for all sorts of media is a great thing to do in Photoshop, it will make your life much easier.
Resolution independent artwork is artwork that can be scaled without quality loss. This means you can design something really small but still print it in a huge size without losing any of the quality and detail. In Illustrator you create such resolution independent artwork. Artwork you create during an Illustrator course can be scaled without becoming blotty and blorry, as is the case when you make something bigger in Photoshop
In Photoshop you usually don't use vectors but pixels: the smallest colour units that images are made of. Photos are very sensitive to scaling and transforming. This means that there are less things you can do in Photoshop where resizing is concerned and that you have to design at a specific size. But in Illustrator you can't edit images. You can only edit images, photos, in Photoshop and other image editing software.
You will usually enjoy starting with the first Photoshop Course. Even if you have used Photoshop for quite a while you will learn handy things that will save you a lot of time, and lots of surprising extras.
You will learn how to use a lot of tools and functions and use drawing tools and special transformation tools. You will learn Photoshop typgraphy so you can combine photos and text into wonderful designs.

This education consists of 4 modules and takes 28 lessons to complete.
The modules can be attended consecutively but it's usually a good idea to have a break in between the modules.
The most popular is the schedule that allows for a longer break after the first two modules, after which you can continue with the remaining two modules. You start in september, practise during the end of year break and continue in January.
Once you practised enough you book the tests for the different modules. The exam is done after that, you can do the tests and the exam within two months after finishing your education.
During the advanced Photoshop course you learn how to prepare images for both print and digital media.
You learn all about resolutions and use contrast, colour corrections and more to create perfect images for InDesign and other applications. Your images are ready for print.
During the Photoshop professional course you learn how to use the history functions, all sorts of document modes and blend modes and much more.
You use more complex settings and combinations to create the result you are after.

During the Photoshop Expert course you learn how to use special corrections layers and how to apply specialistic photo enhancements.
You use the 'Pen' tool to create work paths. These are used to do a lot of different things in Photoshop. You will combine this knowledge with the use of channels, special enhancements and adjustments.
Learn how to use the 'Pen' tool during this course. You use the Pen tool to create work paths.
After the work paths have been created you put them to good use. There is a lot you can do with them and you can do that in different ways that each have their pros and cons. Learn it all from scratch and then combine this with what you already know about Photoshop.
Photoshop is used to create animations, too. You can create a 'drawn' animation from scratch or use more advanced options and special elements.
There are two different types of animations. Learn how to use both and create animations with Photoshop during this fun course.
This course is for you if you want to learn how to create patterns in Photoshop. You start from scratch, the course focuses on creating patterns.
Patterns are used for special fills but the technique is incredibly useful if you want to create patterns that are going to be used in fashion, wallpaper design and much more. A famous Dutch designer company came here to learn Illustrator, they use Illustrator to design patterns too.
The patterns are then printed on silk, cotton and other fabrics. Each fabric is different and requires special attention. Learn tips and tricks during your course.
Brushes are terrific extras to create extra elements and special edges. They are used to refine elements you cut out and form the heart of designs, they are important.
Creating brushes requires attention and skills. You will learn lots of tips and tricks to help you create brushes that are perfect for the job and that can be used with as many Photoshop tools as possible.
You need prior knowledge to attend this course.
This is Thomas Knoll, de developer of Photoshop. He is the man who, with his brother, 'invented' Photoshop back in 1988. In those days it was not an Adobe application, on the contrary. The brothers really had to drag their software all over the place to find an investor and they tried Adobe which was not interested in it at all at first.
Ever since those early days Photoshop became better and better. Learn all you really need during the Photoshop course that is best for you. Discover all you need to use Photoshop professionally, or even if you use it just for fun.
If you create layouts, designs, for publications that require a lot of pages, as is the case with magazines and brochures, you're much better off with InDesign, yes. InDesign is used to layout books too. If you have to combine a lot of images with text and add footers, headers and page numbers for instance InDesign is really the program you should use. In InDesign you will have a wealth of options for typography, too.
Photoshop is terrific to create 1-page designs such as posters. I have to admit Illustrator is even handier for this though. In Illustrator you can so easily adjust colours and elements, it's easy to add illustrations and images and it's much better with text. What's more: Illustrator has more options for text. But still, Illustrator is less handy to create multi page layouts, just like Photoshop.
You will most often combine Photoshop with Illustrator. Creating sharp vector illustrations can not really be done in Photoshop since it is too time consuming and limited.
In Illustrator, you can quickly create ayouts for flyers, posters and other designs. What's more: in Illustrator your designs are perfectly scalable without quality loss.
The combination of Illustrator and Photoshop is fantastic: Photoshop allows you to make your designs softer, Illustrator allows you to create stunning mood boards with special elements in them. Combine these two for the most fantastic results.
TIP It is usually a clever move to know both Illustrator and Photoshop. Once you know both, you won't want to go back.
You place images in InDesign: photographic material. These images can not be edited in InDesign though, so Photoshop and InDesign are almost always combined. In InDesign, you create the perfect layouts for magazines, brochures and books. The images you use can be edited and prepared in Photoshop to have all the control you need.
As a graphic designer with only InDesign skills you will soon find yourself wanting some Photoshop knowledge, if only to scale images properly and create good cut-outs. Or even to isolate elements. Combine Photoshop with InDesign for the best results.
TIP Learn InDesign to combine your images and other artwork in beautiful layouts.
Websites, icons and buttons are very often created in Illustrator, see the buttons above.
But still: without Photoshop webdesign will become a bit more tricky. You will need Photoshop to crop images, to create collages or even to retouch images from your clients. Most webdesigners can't perform properly without Photoshop.
You will most definitely need Photoshop during your Flash course. You can use Photoshop to create backgrounds and even images that you can animate in Flash.
You can use Photoshop to save them in the best possible format, too. This will make the animations easier to load, even though of course Flash also has features to keep the size down, doing the necessary pre work in Photoshop will save you time and will make your graphics easier to implement.
